Cluck cluck…. chicken of the woods

Processing some of the fallen trees, lots of logs stacked and a bit of axe splitting

As we clear the dead and fallen trees always mindful to leave some standing dead wood esp this 12ft dead trunk with a wood pecker hole
Trees are amazing organisms, as well as providing fuel, fruits, flowers, medicines , sugars, building materials etc etc…..they also provide lots of free eco system services, sort of free things they do for us by just being there. So today it’s their shade providing, sounds simple but canopy cover can reduce temperatures in cities by a significant amount making the environment more liveable. Sit in the shade of a tree on a hot day and feel the relief.

Here’s a small bracket fungus we found on a very sickly looking lilac tree. The leaves and flowers were very small and wilting and it’s almost certain this is as a result of the fungus.

Where possible we are reducing our carbon foot print, yesterday was pruning a small local Eucalyptus a d chipping on site, all possible on to the Bakfiet cargo bike and trailer

Platanus x Hispanics often seen planted as a street tree being very tolerant to pollution, these large camouflage barked trees have majestic sweeping limbs and big shade giving leaves.
It’s hard to photograph trees sometimes and here’s one of my worst pictures, the bushy tree on the right is an Elm and on the right mainly in silhouette is the Sycamore we reduced.

This flowering Dogwood (cornus) looks amazing this spring with its white poppy-like flowers.

I love how the grass and flowers have clung on to this upturned root plate.
